Nigeria Police have arrested A 20-year-old bride, Amina Hassan, for allegedly burning down her husband’s house after five weeks of marriage in Adamawa State, North-East, Nigeria.
Hassan was reported to have burnt her husband’s house, over reneging on a divorce deal reached before the marriage was contracted.
According to her, “I was forced into the marriage, and before the wedding, we agreed that he would divorce me after two to three weeks into the marriage; but he reneged on the agreement.
“I had initially agreed to the marriage, but weeks to the wedding day, I told my parents I was no longer interested and explained why.
Of course I don’t love him and he knows that. My parents too know that I don’t love him, yet I was forced to marry him,” she explained.
The incident happened at Shuware neighborhood, Mubi in the Mubi North Local Government Area of the state.
Sahar reporters reported, that the Adamawa State Police Command has since arrested Hassan, as ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Babatola.
The spokesperson for the State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje confirmed to SaharaReporters on Thursday that Hassan had been taken into custody for the alleged crime.
