Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for the arrest of popular crossdresser, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, also known as Bobrisky, and Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, over naira mutilation.
Obi expressed his disapproval during a live broadcast on Arise News TV, on Wednesday night. He suggested that the EFCC should prioritize investigating the prevalent corruption that impacts many impoverished Nigerians, rather than pursuing cases like this.
Cubana Chief Priest was granted bail in the amount of N10 million and required to have two sureties after pleading not guilty to allegations of naira mutilation and abuse during his trial. Additionally, the EFCC successfully secured a six-month conviction against Bobrisky for defacing the country’s currency (naira) during a public event.
Obi emphasized that there are more critical issues that require the urgent attention of the anti-graft agency, such as budget padding, undisclosed subsidy payments, and inflated contracts. He urged the EFCC to prioritize these significant matters over minor cases like those involving Bobrisky and Cubana Chief Priest.
“Our agencies should face budget padding squarely not arresting Bobrisky because he dressed like a woman and spent like N500 notes.
“If someone comes to Nigeria today and says we are going to feed only women in this hunger time, all men would dress like women and go and collect the food because we are all hungry. People will dress like Bobrisky. Everybody will turn into women.”
