Why Going to Court Might Be an Absolute Waste of Time – Kenneth Okonkwo

Kenneth Okonkwo, a renowned Nigerian actor and spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Committee, has expressed his belief that challenging the presidential election results in court is a futile endeavor. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had advised dissatisfied parties to seek legal redress if they were unhappy with the election outcome.

Reacting to INEC’s delay in uploading the election results to the viewing portal, Dino Melaye, a representative for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), along with other parties, staged a walkout at the national collation center in Abuja. This action prompted Okonkwo to voice his opinion on Twitter the following day.

In his tweet, Okonkwo asserted that any Nigerian who expects to find justice in court against a Muslim-Muslim ticket imposed on the country is mistaken. He highlighted the fact that key positions in the government, such as the President, Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, National Chairman of the Party, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, are held by Muslims. According to him, this context renders the pursuit of justice in court futile.

Okonkwo further questioned the belief of some Christians who think they will receive justice from a government that fails to deliver justice to underprivileged Muslims like Bashir Machina. By raising this point, he aimed to emphasize the perceived imbalance and bias within the system, suggesting that justice may not be equally accessible to all citizens, regardless of their religious affiliations.

Any Nigerian who thinks he will get justice in a court against a Muslim-Muslim ticket forced upon Nigerians in a country where the President, Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, National Chairman of the Party, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria were Muslim is ignorant of the Machina treatment”.
