The organised labour has declared an indefinite nationwide strike over the Federal Government’s refusal to increase the proposed minimum wage from N60,000. This was made known to Ecity News this evening. Ajaero had announced that the strike would begin by midnight on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
This comes after weeks of meeting between the Organised Labour and the tripartite committee set up by the government to look into the issue but resolutions have not been reached due to both parties finding a common ground.
Recall that the Labour leader has said that if a resolution is not reached by the 31st of May 2024, there will be no other option than to embark on a strike. Also, President Tinubu had promised Nigerian workers that the issue would be resolved sooner during the May day celebrations.
TUC President, Festus Osifo had said the ultimatum issued by labour remained following the breakdown of talks on Tuesday.
“We have an ultimatum on May Day that if by May end, we don’t have a new minimum wage that will take a worker home, we will not be able to guarantee industrial peace.
“We are sticking to that ultimatum,” the president of the TUC, Osifo said.
