Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi North Senatorial District, has resumed his duties in the Senate after a three-month suspension that began on March 12, 2024. His return to the chamber follows a successful motion by Deputy Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro, who expressed regret on Ningi’s behalf and took responsibility for his actions.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, subsequently announced Ningi’s unconditional recall after pleas from several lawmakers who intervened on his behalf. Ningi’s suspension was a result of a controversial interview in which he alleged budget padding, claiming that the National Assembly approved N25 trillion, but the Presidency implemented N28.7 trillion.

Ningi’s return marks the end of a three-month hiatus from his legislative duties, during which time his constituents and colleagues eagerly awaited his return. His resumption of duties is expected to bring a sense of relief and normalcy to the Senate, which has been functioning without him for the past quarter.
