Tips In Keeping Safe From Cholera Outbreak.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention NCDC in the wake of the cholera outbreak currently ravaging some parts of the country, is warning Nigerians on the need for proper hygiene to combat the disease.

In its latest report, from January 1 to June 11, 2024, there have been 1,141 suspected and 65 confirmed cases of cholera, resulting in 30 deaths, across 30 states and 96 local government areas.

The top 10 states contributing to the cholera burden are Bayelsa, Zamfara, Abia, Cross River, Bauchi, Delta, Katsina, Imo, Nasarawa, and Lagos.

As the outbreak of cholera ravages some parts of the country, here are some steps in keeping safe from the outbreak.

Here are 10 tips to keep safe from cholera:

1. Drink safe water: Stick to bottled or boiled water, and avoid tap water.

2. Wash your hands: Frequently with soap and clean water, especially before eating.

3. Use proper hygiene: Keep utensils, plates, and surfaces clean.

4. Avoid raw foods: Raw fruits, veggies, and seafood can be contaminated.

5. Cook food thoroughly: Ensure food is cooked properly, especially seafood.

6. Avoid close contact: With people showing cholera symptoms.

7. Use proper sanitation: Use latrines or toilets, and dispose of waste properly.

8. Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of safe water to prevent dehydration.

9. Get vaccinated: Consider getting vaccinated if traveling to high-risk areas.

10. Seek medical attention: Immediately if you show symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal cramps.

Remember, cholera is preventable with proper precautions!
